Why SEV NOIR
In music, an artist’s name is more than just a pseudonym. It becomes part of the artist’s identity, atmosphere, and the emotional space where the music lives. For me, SEV NOIR is not simply a stage name — it is a natural reflection of my personality, my sound, and the time when most of my music is born.
The story behind this name is actually very simple.
SEV comes from my initials — Silenko Evgeny Valerievich.
In Russian, the first letters of my name form the abbreviation SEV. It’s short, strong, and personal. Naturally, it became the name I chose for my very first musical release.
That first album was something special. It featured lounge reinterpretations of well-known world hits, but not in a typical way. The music was designed as a stylized oriental lounge project, with a strong presence of eastern instruments and a deep atmospheric sound. It was a very unique interpretation — elegant, emotional, and immersive music meant for mood, space, and reflection.
However, when the album was released, something unexpected happened.
Because the name SEV was already used by several artists, a mistake made by one of the well-known music aggregators caused the tracks from my album to be automatically distributed across multiple artist profiles with the same name.
In other words, the album ended up scattered across different artists named SEV.
As soon as I discovered this, it became clear that continuing with that situation would make it impossible to build a clear artistic identity. I immediately decided to withdraw the album from distribution. For now, it is unavailable on streaming platforms, but after the required waiting period, it will be released again properly.
This situation raised an important question:
How could I keep the name SEV, but make it unique?
The answer appeared almost instantly.
That’s how SEV NOIR was born.
SEV remains my personal foundation — my initials, my identity.
NOIR means night.
Night perfectly reflects the atmosphere of my music. Most of my compositions are created late at night — when the world becomes quiet, when the noise of the day disappears, and there is space for emotions, ideas, and sound.
Interestingly, long before this pseudonym existed, one of the first articles written about my work already hinted at this idea. The article was titled:
“The Music of the Night by Evgeny Silenko.”
In that piece, it was noted for the first time that night is when I feel the strongest inspiration to create. Music written at night often feels deeper, more honest, and more emotional.
Because of that, the name SEV NOIR appeared almost naturally.
It is not just a stage name.
It represents a state of mind, an atmosphere, and the creative space where my music is born.
Today the name SEV NOIR fully reflects the character of my sound — atmospheric, cinematic, emotional music created in the quiet intensity of the night.
And most importantly, there is no longer any confusion.
Across all digital music platforms, you can now find my work under the name:
SEV NOIR.
